2015 SAG Awards Aftermath

Making predictions about ANYTHING in public is a harrowing experience.  That said, my SAG Awards choices weren’t bad, but there were a few surprises.  Let’s take a look:

SAG Awards 2015 - Predictions!!

Well, tonight’s the night for the second leg in the triple crown of the movie awards’ season: the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG) Awards.  These awards are given to – and voted on by – those actors who are members of SAG-AFTRA acting union.  Awards are issued in both movie and television categories, with Best Ensemble Cast prizes given in films as well as Television-Drama and Television-Comedy.

2015 Oscar Nominations Impact

Of the 20 acting individuals singled out in yesterday’s Oscar nominations announcement, 11 have been to the dance before.  The 9 newbies bring to 895 the total number of competitive acting nominees in Oscar history.  Welcome to the club: Patricia Arquette, Steve Carell, Benedict Cumberbatch, Felicity Jones, Michael Keaton, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Redmayne, J.K. Simmons, and Emma Stone.

My Predictions Were Poop...Not Dick Poop, But Poop, Nonetheless

Well, the Oscar nominations are out.  Fresh off lips both full (Chris Pine) and bumbling (Cheryl Boone Isaacs), the news is spreading throughout Hollywood as you read.  Just one question: why did Boone Isaacs seem to get all the hard names and the lists of foreigners to say?  Pine’s diction and execution were flawless and his voice resonant.  Dick Poop, Cheryl?  It ain’t Adele Dazeem - and at least she immediately corrected herself - but come on.

Oscar Nominee Predictions

The real fun of the Oscar derby is right now…selecting the nominees.  Often, the winners have been de facto for weeks before the big ceremony in late February; such is the case this year.  Unless the continental plates shift at the same time, Michael Keaton, Julianne Moore, J.K. Simmons, and Patricia Arquette will all leave the Dolby with gold.
